Therapeutic Riding
The client and their supports work with a CanTRA certified therapeutic riding instructor in developing an individualized plan of approach and partnership with the horse to achieve their program goals. The Instructor may consult an appropriate professional in the assessment of the client and the creation of their balanced development plan. Therapeutic Riding is comprised of three primary classifications:

THERAPY
​
The Therapy classification includes activities with the horse that can be forms of therapy for individuals with a range of abilities in achieving physical and mental health, cognitive, behavioural, social and communication goals. A team approach including therapeutic riding instructor(s), health professional(s), and our clients is used here.

EDUCATION
The Education classification involves activities with the horse to facilitate individuals with physical, intellectual, developmental, psychological, and/or sensory impairments to achieve educational goals. Working with educational professionals, here, emphasis is placed on incorporating cognitive, behavioural, mental health, social and physical goals into each client’s program.

SPORT RECREATION & LEISURE

The sport recreation and leisure classification enables our riders to improve existing skills and develop new skills.
Sport activities with the horse may be adapted to become accessible to individuals with varying abilities. Clients derive therapeutic, psychological, educational and social benefits from their involvement in equestrian activities. The activities can be adapted and used as recreation/leisure placing the emphasis on enjoyable and relaxing experiences that provide additional socialization and physical well-being benefits.
Here, the therapeutic riding instructor is responsible for the design and implementation of each program.
